Course Book Project

house design | drafting

Foundational work from one of my recent architecture courses. The project was to replicate a floor plan from scratch, add furniture, redesign the master bath, kitchen area as we saw fit, develop a name and logo for our imaginary architectural firm and finally create Arch-D prints with a title block using the school’s plotter.

Space Redesign

On the left below is the original floor plan from the course book. On the right is my redesign. I thought the original kitchen area and garage entry was really awkward with a lot of dead space. I decide to turn the closed utility area from the garage into an open mudroom plus a utility room off to the right. I put in an island to break the kitchen space up and put the main appliances on the right wall.

Finally I took out the bay window and put in French Doors to give more access to the outside patio and let in more natural light. In addition, I also reworked the master bathroom (left of plan) to create a more modern flow and use of space by removing the bay window and putting in a large wardrobe closet, walk-in shower and linen closet.
